Jean-Paul Ritrovato is a French artist and a native of the French Riviera, one of the best environments for developing Art. From the 1920’s onwards, and because of its tremendous light and colors, French Riviera has always attracted countless artists including famous ones such as Braque, Derain, Dufy, Matisse, Modigliani, Chagall, Picasso to name a few... Graduated in art history and tourism, Jean-Paul Ritrovato had for years many people discovered the rich heritage of the French Riviera, a knowledge that feeds his art today, whether it tells about spectacular sceneries, impressive monuments, glamorous movie stars or wildlife.
For more than a decade, Ritrovato’s art has developed quickly with a distinctive and unique style. He started working in black and white doing Indian ink wildlife compositions. Colours came later with the first portraits in oils on canvases. But watercolour, more than any other medias, enabled him to render the transparency of the atmosphere and the water, the purity of the light, the richness and the vibrancy of the colours.
There is great passion to be seen and felt in his work, that serves up emotion as well as technical skill. Jean-Paul Ritrovato has been chosen by the French National Center of Historical Monuments to create illustrations for famous French Architectural Heritage sites, a true recognition of his Art and ability.
